History of US - Jordan Trade Relations

 History of Agreements

Qualifying Industrial Zone

Pursuant to the United States - Israel Free Trade Area Implementation Act of 1995, the governments of Israel and Jordan signed a bilateral agreement on March 1998 designating the Al-Hassan Industrial Estate in Irbid as the first Qualifying Industrial Zone (QIZ) in Jordan. The QIZs are designed to attract foreign investment, since it provides investors the opportunity of duty-free access to the United States for goods produced within the zone. Under the QIZ, Jordanians and Israeli manufacturers each must contribute input of at least 11.7%.

Today, Jordan has ten industrial parks, which are designated as QIZs:

  1. Gateway QIZ, located on the northern Jordan-Israel border

  2. Al-Hassan Industrial Estate in Irbid

  3. Al-Tajamouat Industrial Estate in Amman

  4. Ad-Dulayl Industrial Park near Zarka

  5. Kerak Industrial Estate in Karak

  6. Aqaba Industrial Estate in Aqaba

  7. Jordan Cyber City in Irbid

  8. Al-Qastal Industrial Zone in Amman

  9. Mushatta International Complex in Amman

  10. El-Zai Readywear Manufacturing Co. in Zarqa
